For the first time in his career, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is open-minded about playing elsewhere, ESPN reported on Monday.
After 12 seasons, nine All-Star selections, and one championship with the Bucks, the two-time NBA MVP is reportedly considering whether it would be best for him to stay in Milwaukee or move on. The Bucks selected him with the 15th overall pick in 2013, and he has won two NBA MVP awards. The 30-year-old averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in 2024-25 before Milwaukee suffered its third straight first-round playoff exit. Since the 2018-19 season, the Bucks’ improved winning percentage is largely attributable to Antetokounmpo’s excellence. However,
Antetokounmpo has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that he has not won a championship since 2021. I don’t have a second championship – I look back at my career and everybody can say, ‘Oh, incredible career, active Hall of Famer, first ballot, whatever.’ But me, my personal goal, if I am not able to help my team win a second ring, I’m letting down myself, Antetokounmpo said last month on his brother Thanasis’s podcast.
He is under contract with the Bucks through the 2026-27 season and has a $62.8m player option for 2027-28. He carries cap hits of $54.1m in 2025-26 and $58.5m in 2026-27.
The report says that at this week’s combine in Chicago, Sutors are expected to talk more with the Bucks about a possible deal for the Greek star. The Bucks are also expected to sit down with Antetokounmpo’s representatives, Giorgios Panou and Alex Saratsis, in the offseason to discuss his future, league sources told ESPN.
After the Bucks’ most recent loss in the playoffs, Giannis Antetokounmpo may leave.
